When thinking of Seattle, BBQ normally isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. Most people probably conjure up images of Starbucks coffee, rainy afternoons, or an endless crowd of grungy flannel shirts. While each of those have certainly cemented their place in the city’s ever changing pop-culture, we’ve got our taste buds locked on a new line of BBQ rub that’s looking to re-brand the upper Northwest as the new BBQ hotbed.
Issuing a proclamation of “monumental flavor” is a tall order for any product to live up to. Only a brand hailing from our nation’s capital that’s been produced and distributed by ex-politicians would issue such a promise to the citizens of the United States. Luckily these politicians are originally from Missouri, so they’ve got a true barbecue agenda that can’t be swayed by lobbyist kickbacks or political bribery. We’ve been sampling their products for a few weeks now, and we can confidently confirm that you can take these politicians for their word with their Pork Barrel BBQ products!
Every year About.com conducts their Readers’ Choice Awards to showcase the best products, features and services across a multitude of categories. A few months back they invited their readers to nominate their favorite barbecue related products, and we’re thrilled to announce that our own line of Burnt Finger BBQ products were picked as finalists in both the barbecue sauce and barbecue rub categories. It’s an honor to be recognized as one of the top products in the country, but we still need a little help from you to bring home the title of “Best of the Best”!

We’re heading down the home stretch of our Rubdown Marathon, and this time we bringing you a line of BBQ rubs designed for the health-conscious cooker, or the barbecue fan with special dietary needs. No longer does the terror of ingesting MSG or Gluten rich products have to loom around your barbecue grill, because these seasonings are free of both and are made from 100% all-natural ingredients. Plus it doesn’t hurt that they were developed by one of the most famous and well-known barbecue chefs to grace the competition circuit.
Day 2 of the Rubdown Marathon brings you a new flavor from a competition BBQ team that’s coming off of a 2009 dream season. Not only did this team rack up a whole truck load of Grand Championships, but one of those just happened to be the prestigious American Royal Invitational in Kansas City. Their Yardbird and Bovine Bold Rubs are well established favorites among competition cooks throughout the entire country, and now they’re rolling out a brand new seasoning for those of you who like things hot!
The Monthly Rubdown has a long track record of bringing you the highest quality barbecue products, as well as proven winners in the competition world. A few months back we introduced you to the Three Little Pigs line of coveted sacues, and now we’re proud to announce the release of their brand new line of BBQ rubs. The Three Little Pigs Huff and Puff Competition team has won the prestigious American Royal BBQ Cook-off an amazing eight times; only one other team has won more than once, and it has won just twice! The Three Little Pigs also has won the prestigious Jack Daniels BBQ World Championship Sauce Contest and over 600 other individual BBQ awards. These rubs have long been one of the big secrets to their success, and now they’re making them available to everyone!
The Monthly Rubdown is back and this time we’re bringing you the rubs and sauce from our absolute favorite barbecue restaurant in Kansas City. Granted, KC is known for the legendary classics like Gates, Arthur Bryant’s and Jack Stack, but if you ask any local, they’ll point you in the direction of true Kansas City style flavor. Even Anthony Bourdain recently christened this hot spot as one his “13 Place to Eat Before You Die”. If you’ve ever had the chance to swing through, then you know exactly what Anthony is talking about.
With Father’s Day right around the corner, the time couldn’t be more perfect for The Monthly Rubdown to rear it’s delicious head once again. To date we’ve showcased our favorite rubs including pork, brisket, and steak rubs, so it’s only fitting that we’re now adding a rib rub to the arsenal. To speak to the stature of this particular rub, it recently brought home the title of overall 1st place rub from this year’s Great American Barbecue, and also received 2nd place honors in the mild category at last year’s GAB. Not to mention it has led the creators to multiple Grand Championships and an overall KCBS TOY rib ranking of 38th in the country in 2008!!!
Now that we’ve armed you with a few killer recipes, it’s time to start filling your spice rack with the proper ammunition. Picking out the perfect rub can be an intimidating task, especially if you don’t venture into the BBQ aisle all that often. (Yes, that’s right. In Kansas City we actually have aisles of BBQ products, not just racks.) To help you see past those fancy labels and catchy names, we’ve added a new feature to our site called “The Monthly Rubdown”. Hmmmm…did I forget to mention that we’ve also got FREEBIES!!!!
