In the Kitchen with Bonnie: The Westside Local

In the Kitchen with BonnieRecently I was asked to take part in local food show called In the Kitchen with Bonnie. In each episode Bonnie visits a local restaurant to showcase some of the best chefs that Kansas City has to offer. In addition to providing the back story of each restaurant’s concept and theme, Bonnie also spends some time “in the kitchen” learning how each chef prepares their signature dish. So when Bonnie contacted the BBQ Addicts, I gladly headed out to take part in one of their shoots as a “celebrity taster” at The Westside Local.

QuinoaThe dish that Chef Stephanie Dumler prepared for us was Quinoa with Roasted Vegetables and Seared Salmon with Garlic, Shallots, Butternut Squash, Haricot Verts, Brussels Sprouts and Dried Cherries topped with Grilled Salmon, Crisp Arugula and Shaved Parmesan.

This was my first experience with quinoa, so I really wasn’t sure what to expect, but when the plate hit the table I was met with the intoxicating aroma of garlic and shallots (one of my favorite combos). The first bite yielded a rich buttery flavor, which Chef Stephanie later confirmed was the Parmesan cheese. The quinoa was firm, but not crunchy, and the little piece of grain would float around in your mouth in manner similar to caviar. Imagine taking the flavor of barley (the kind that’s not beer yet), and combining it with the texture of a firm rice. That’s quinoa.

Lucky for me, they also had Boulevard Tank 7 and a Hybrid Sirah Blend to wash down this delicious food. Here’s the entire video of my tasting segment with In the Kitchen with Bonnie at The Westside Local in Kansas City.

To see how the dish was made, head on over to Bonnie’s website to see the other videos from the shoot.

Greetings! Even tho I didn’t taste any bbq at Westside Local during a visit to KC last month, I did save room to share the Creme Brulee with fresh figs with two others. I was a grande finale! The best I’ve had and savored every bite. I appreciate good food with quality ingredients as local as possible plus the funky atmosphere suited me as well! Love that entire area and the other foodie places it shares!

If you ever get a recipe for the super Creme Brulee, it would top off my visit to KC!

    Thanks..loved the film!
