Once again the Great American Barbecue was a great weekend to spend cooking outdoors. This year the organizers bumped the date up to be the week before the long Memorial Day holiday weekend. This gave the competition teams the chance to still compete in this great contest, and also be able to spend some valuable family time over the long weekend. Burnt Finger BBQ came out of the weekend with calls in 4 of 8 categories we entered, and two local Kansas City teams walked away with Grand Championships in each of KCBS contests.

Are you looking for something fun to do this weekend? Why not head down to Kansas City for one of the greatest barbecue competitions/festivals known to man. May 21st and 22nd will be host to the 6th annual Great American Barbecue Festival at the Wyandotte County Park at Beautiful Capital Federal Park (or Sandstone Amphitheater for those familiar with the KC area). There will be plenty of activities on site to enterain the family, including a carnival, a dedicated Kidz Zone, food/equipment vendors, live music, fireworks, and even a book signing by yours truly!!!
With spring in full gear, and summer coming fast, your grilling season should already be well underway. At this point the only valid excuse for not partaking in your first outdoor cook of the season is because you simply don’t own a grill or smoker. Lucky for you, Sam’s Club has stepped up and given us a grill to give away to one lucky backyard chef. Consider it a free jump-start to get your summer barbecue back on track!
Since KFC released their Double Down sandwich, I’ve had a hankering to sample the sandwich that’s proclaimed to be “so meaty, there’s no room for a bun!” Sporting two thick and juicy boneless white meat chicken filets, two pieces of bacon, two melted slices of Monterey Jack and pepper jack cheese and Colonel’s Sauce, I have high hopes that this meal will fit nicely into my meatatarian lifestyle!
For the first time in a very long time, my wife and I both had free schedules the other weekend. Our way of relaxing is taking a trip to the local farmers market and gourmet meat shop to hand pick the ingredients for a fine meal. As soon as we laid eyes on the fresh lobster tails resting on a bed of crushed ice in the seafood cooler, we knew that a hearty surf and turf dinner was in our immediate future.
Extra! Extra! Read all about it! The BBQ Addicts have release two new flavors of Bacon Explosion! If you’ve ever bitten into a Bacon Explosion and thought “This is fantastic, but it would be even better if it had *insert favorite ingredient*“, then you’ve come to the right place. Starting today, we now have our brand new Jalapeno Bacon Explosion and Cheese Bacon Explosion available for purchase right here on BBQ Addicts.

Over the last year and half we’ve been working non-stop on developing our first cookbook “BBQ Makes Everything Better“. All those sleepless nights are about to pay off as we’re quickly approaching May 4th, the official release date for our first book.
Now don’t go thinking that this is your standard grilling or smoking “how-to” cookbook. We do include the tips and techniques that every backyard cook should posses, but our focus in on creating delicious, mouth-watering meals through simple and easy-to-follow recipes. These are the dishes we’ve cooked for our friends and families for years, and now we’re thrilled to finally share them with you!
Last weekend we spent Saturday afternoon out at a local barbecue supply store offering up Bacon Explosion samples to the hoards of people loading up brand new grills and smokers for this year’s barbecue season. Next to us was a gentleman churning out wood fired pizzas on a trusty Big Green Egg. It didn’t take long before we sent over a couple hand fulls of Bacon Explosion and a bottle of Burnt Finger BBQ sauce. The results were GLORIOUS!!!
Every so often we like to take a day off work and relax with friends and family. This time around we headed out to Kauffman Stadium to celebrate Opening Day with the Kansas City Royals. In true BBQ Addicts style, we loaded up the Weber Kettle for some recreational pre-game Bacon Explosion tailgating in the parking lot. As we were sitting around the grill sipping on some Iron City Brew, an anchorman from a local news station caught a whiff of sizzling bacon in the air and wandered over with his camera man to investigate.
The “Periclean Age of Bacon” has arrived. Last night bacon was featured on ABC’s Nightline, and of course there can’t be a story about bacon without the Bacon Explosion being involved. We got a brief mention and a taste test from Josh Ozersky, who seems a bit hardcore about his bacon (even though he wrote a book on hamburgers). Apparently he thinks two pounds of bacon isn’t enough when there is a different kind of pork near it, but to each his own. Interesting piece all around with the main point being BACON IS HERE TO STAY!
(Please be patient, it takes a minute for ABC to load their video player)
