Rubs & Sauces

Burnt Finger BBQ Private Stock Barbecue SauceAdmittedly, we’ve neglected our blog over the last couple of weeks. We know how much our readers hate it when we go on hiatus (primarily because we get your complaint emails), so this week we’re making it up to you with a 5 part version of The Monthly Rubdown. Each day we’ll be introducing you to a new product (or family of products) that’s now available in our online BBQ store. To kick-off this week of Rubdowns we’re rolling out a brand new gallon size of our best selling sauce.

The Monthly Rubdown: Three Little Pigs BBQ Rub

Three Little Pigs BBQThe Monthly Rubdown has a long track record of bringing you the highest quality barbecue products, as well as proven winners in the competition world. A few months back we introduced you to the Three Little Pigs line of coveted sacues, and now we’re proud to announce the release of their brand new line of BBQ rubs. The Three Little Pigs Huff and Puff Competition team has won the prestigious American Royal BBQ Cook-off an amazing eight times; only one other team has won more than once, and it has won just twice! The Three Little Pigs also has won the prestigious Jack Daniels BBQ World Championship Sauce Contest and over 600 other individual BBQ awards. These rubs have long been one of the big secrets to their success, and now they’re making them available to everyone!

Burnt Finger BBQIf you were one of the lucky 300-400 people that swung by our booth at The American Royal BBQ a couple weeks ago, then you already know about (and maybe even tasted) our latest project. Remember that sauce and rub pictured in our Bacon Explosion recipe post? Well, the time has come to unveil those delicious concoctions to the world. And as a happy ending to this month’s rubdown, we’re even rolling out a few additions to some of our best selling product lines.

The Monthly Rubdown: Three Little Pigs BBQ

Three Little Pigs BBQWith your Labor Day BBQ right around the corner it’s only fitting that we hit you with another round of The Monthly Rubdown…only this time it gets a little saucy. Since we’re getting into the habit of featuring the biggest and baddest competition barbecue products on the market, we figured that it’s time to bring out the sauce from one of the winningest teams in competition history. In fact, this sauce helped win the American Royal Barbecue contest an astounding 7 years in a row!!!

The Monthly Rubdown: Cowtown BBQ

Oklahoma Joe'sThe Monthly Rubdown is back and this time we’re bringing you the rubs and sauce from our absolute favorite barbecue restaurant in Kansas City. Granted, KC is known for the legendary classics like Gates, Arthur Bryant’s and Jack Stack, but if you ask any local, they’ll point you in the direction of true Kansas City style flavor. Even Anthony Bourdain recently christened this hot spot as one his “13 Place to Eat Before You Die”. If you’ve ever had the chance to swing through, then you know exactly what Anthony is talking about.

Mug Root BeerJust in time for Father’s Day (well close enough anyway) we have another giveaway for you. If your dad (or yourself, we’re not really discriminating here) has ever wanted to make his own barbecue sauce, but never knows where to start we have a treat for you. MUG Root Beer generously gave us one of their kits to test out. They are also letting us give you, our loyal readers, 10 barbecue sauce kits for Father’s Day gifts (to be used later since I’m late). Anyway, we’re going to make this a quick contest so we’ll randomly select five people who sign up for our periodic email newsletter (we promise not to annoy you with it) and/or comment below (doing both increases your chances). We’ll pick the winners tomorrow and update this post so hurry!

The Monthly Rubdown: 3 Eyz BBQ

3 Eyz BBQWith Father’s Day right around the corner, the time couldn’t be more perfect for The Monthly Rubdown to rear it’s delicious head once again. To date we’ve showcased our favorite rubs including pork, brisket, and steak rubs, so it’s only fitting that we’re now adding a rib rub to the arsenal. To speak to the stature of this particular rub, it recently brought home the title of overall 1st place rub from this year’s Great American Barbecue, and also received 2nd place honors in the mild category at last year’s GAB. Not to mention it has led the creators to multiple Grand Championships and an overall KCBS TOY rib ranking of 38th in the country in 2008!!!

Fast Eddie's Steak SeasoningEver since we launched The Monthly Rubdown feature by showcasing Plowboy’s award winning rubs, we’ve been lucky enough to have the opportunity to sample a wide variety of rubs and sauces. Well, we’ve taken our time and evaluated each and every product that has graced our test kitchen. And although most of the products were good, only a select few have shown the standout level of quality that we’re looking for.  In fact, the producers of our latest find are so confident about the quality of their product, they tout it as “Oklahoma’s best kept family secret”…and we agree!!!

The Monthly Rubdown: Plowboy’s BBQ

Now that we’ve armed you with a few killer recipes, it’s time to start filling your spice rack with the proper ammunition. Picking out the perfect rub can be an intimidating task, especially if you don’t venture into the BBQ aisle all that often. (Yes, that’s right. In Kansas City we actually have aisles of BBQ products, not just racks.) To help you see past those fancy labels and catchy names, we’ve added a new feature to our site called “The Monthly Rubdown”. Hmmmm…did I forget to mention that we’ve also got FREEBIES!!!!
